I just watched the free mpegs included in the on line mag modern drummer with a buddy solo, i was wondering if Vinnie or Dave learnt any of the left hand techniques Buddy used, or was he just a one off? I have to say if BR was still around using say a Vinnie kit set up, he wouldnt be touched. No way.

I don't know about Vinnie, but I'm sure Weckl has studied Buddy's technique. Buddy has been a huge influence on Dave since he started.
Of course I've never seen anyones left hand come close to Buddy's. Even today. It was just a combination of anatomy, practice, and natural talent that has yet to be reproduced.

Yea, I've heard Vinnie mention Buddy many times, with good reason of course. I got really sick of hearing certain people totally bad mouthing Buddy on the forum of a well known fusion drummer. It was f*cking disgusting. No respect........

My post may have sounded a little 'kiss Buddies arse!', its just my way of me paying respect to who in my personal opinion was/is the true master of drumming from the source. The fact that Dave amongst others is influenced by Rich's technique says it all. I guess its just down to whatever floats yr boat. I have the same admiration for the Vinnies and Daves of this world too, but in a different way. If i could play a tenth like them id be a happy man! Incidently (excuse my poor spelling), i tried some Buddy vic firth sticks this week, most bizarre, top heavy, for more bounce i assume?

Yes Method.... exchanges is down the road from me. Called sound control now, although i digress as to whether its the biggest music shop in Europe. They look after me though! Did you play in UK recently Method? I assume yr from Canada. Nice site by the way.

Actually Vinnie's sticks are also quite biger than 5A but the have great bounce. I like them...

Phil, I was born in the UK, and I've spent quite a bit of time there. I miss the balti's over there! You can't get that quality of indian/pakistani food around here .
